F. Wayne McLeskey Jr., was born in Norfolk, VA in 1923 and demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, selling Liberty Magazine on the corner of 34th and Colley Avenue. Wayne was an avid pilot throughout his life and first learned to fly at age 14 piloting a Stearman as depicted in the McLeskey Family Foundation logo.
Wayne founded McLeskey, a real estate development company in the 1950's, and through a disciplined approach established himself as one of Hampton Roads' premier real estate companies. McLeskey's diversified holdings include commercial properties, single-family homes, multi-family rental property, mobile home parks, marinas, charter boats, aircraft, and undeveloped land.
Wayne McLeskey supported many community and civic organizations financially and through service on numerous boards. He was instrumental in developing the sport of off-shore billfishing in the City of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Wayne was also a catalyst for creating one of Virginia Beach's premier assets, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. In December of 2011 Wayne, along with his wife Cheryl, founded the McLeskey Family Foundation to continue the McLeskey philanthropic tradition.
The McLeskey Family Foundation provides valuable financial support to charitable organizations that make a lasting impact in the lives of Hampton Roads' youth. To apply for a financial contribution, please download this application and submit it to Tina Burbage (Tina@McLeskey.com).
